Paul is a global operating executive with significant operations leadership experience in the industrial gas and specialty chemical business. Paul is known for his strong leadership and strategic view, along with his ability to analyze, develop and implement innovative solutions for complex business problems. In his leadership roles, Paul has demonstrated his ability to mentor and developed effective leaders at all organizational levels. He has a proven record of strong leadership and substantial experience in senior management roles for plant operations, private fleet management, logistics, plant engineering, and plant maintenance. Paul has hands-on knowledge of diverse industrial gas processes and technologies including; Air Separation, Package gases, Gasification, Steam Methane Reforming, Liquefication of Oxygen, Nitrogen, Argon, Hydrogen, Carbon Dioxide, and Helium. Paul has had responsibility as the most senior operating executive for several production joint ventures, providing the oversight and leadership for these ventures to operate very successfully over many years. Paul has been directly responsible for evaluation and assessment of potential mergers and acquisitions. He has been the operations, distribution, and engineering lead for many notable successful acquisitions. These have all delivered on expected investment returns. In all cases these assets have quickly been able to deliver comparable safety and operational performance.
Paul recently retired from Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (APD) in April 2018. At the time of his retirement, he was Director Operations America’s Industrial Gases. He led the company’s largest business segment with revenue of over $3.5 Billon and an asset base of over $6.5 Billon, with over 200 facilities and 3,000 employees in North and South America. Paul’s Air Products career spanned over 27 years. Other Senior leadership roles included: Operations Director Merchant America Gases (Plant and Private Fleet), Director Global HYCO Operations. During his career, Paul’s leadership skills have been critical to support significant growth opportunities. He was able to demonstrate strong leadership and technical competency shaping and developing a motivated team that was recognized as an industry leader in safety and operational excellence. In the many operating leadership roles, he held, he led and support his team in redefining plant operations and distribution for Air Products driving the use of advanced data analytics and automation to significantly improve plant operations and maintenance performance and cost. Paul has acted as the America’s Crisis Management Officer for the past 10 years. During this time, he has led response to natural disasters as well as operational incidents. Paul led the response of the Hurricane’s in the Gulf Coast during this period, including Katrina, Rota, Ike, and most recently Hurricane Harvey.
Paul is a graduate of New Jersey Institute of Technology with a BS Chemical Engineering. He also attended The Darden School at the University of Virginia for Executive Leadership. He has been trained in Crisis Communications by Dan Ammerman of the Ammerman Institute and Dr. Vincent Covollo of the Center for Risk Communications, Columbia University.
Paul is a past president for the Board of Directors for the La Porte Education Foundation; he is a former director of the Neighborhood Center and the La Porte Chamber of Commerce. During his time in Stockton CA, he was on the Board of Directors for the Stockton Chamber of Commerce and was President of the Habitat for Humanity chapter in Stockton. He was recognized by the Stockton Chamber of Commerce as Business manager of the year in 1999. While in the Gulf Coast the LaPorte site was recognized as industry of the year in 2000 and 2008 by the LaPorte TX Chamber of Commerce.
