Starting a Nonprofit Organization
Houston, Texas - Leisure Learning Unlimited, Inc

This half-day workshop combines the seminars "So You Think You Wish to Start a Nonprofit Organization" and Starting a Nonprofit Organization: Legal Nuts and Bolts".  You get two workshops for the price of one!

Topics covered in the first half of the session:

Learn how to determine if there is a necessity for another NPO to do what you want to do. Do you really understand what you are getting into? Who should be consulted? Who should be involved? How does collaboration add to the success of your NPO?  Do you need to understand the connection to starting up a NPO and grass roots or community organizing? Does "It Take A Village" to start a NPO? Can a solo founder and their family member's interest be enough? If not how do you find supporters, clients, financial support? Have you considered fiscal sponsorship? - That option could allow your organization to grow initially under the umbrella of another charitable nonprofit until it's mature enough to stand on its own.

Topics covered in the second half of the session:

Learn the legal steps to choose a nonprofit entity, the legal duties and responsibilities of management, business risks, entity, picking a name, obtaining a tax identification number, forms for governance such as bylaws, resolutions and meeting preparation.
